Award Categories

Micro-Entrepreneur Award (2 to 5 yrs in business, fewer than 5 employees)
The entrepreneur* has had principal responsibility for the creation and operation of a business which provides a sustaining income and has allowed him/her to transition from unemployment or under-employment prior to starting a business. The time in the business should be more than two years but less than five years. The business has no more than five employees.
Emerging Entrepreneur Award (2 to 5 yrs in business, more than 5 employees)
The entrepreneur* has had principal responsibility for the creation and operation of a business which has demonstrated growth in revenues and number of employees, profitability and impact on the community or region. The time in the business should be more than two years but less than five years. The business must have more than five employees.
Established Entrepreneur Award (5 to 15 yrs in business)
The enentrepreneur* has had principal responsibility for the creation and operation of a business which has demonstrated high growth in revenues and number of employees, profitability and impact on the community or region. The time in the business should be more than five years but less than fifteen years.
Mature Entrepreneur Award (15+ yrs in business)
The entrepreneur* has principal responsibility for operating the business for a minimum of fifteen years and has demonstrated initiative, success, and creativity in developing, growing, and sustaining a business which continues to have a significant impact on the community or region.
Innovation Award
The entrepreneur* has developed a new process that creates value by implementing a new idea or technology.
 
Lifetime Achievement Award**
The entrepreneur* has a record of accomplishments over no less than a twenty-five year career that has had a significant impact on the community or region.
 
David A. Martin Entrepreneurial Leadership Award**
The individual has a record of leadership in the economic development network of Northeastern Minnesota. He/she is a leader/innovator in the development, delivery, and support of programs that assist entrepreneurs or promote entrepreneurism and/or is recognized as a mentor/role model for entrepreneurs and small business owners.

*An entrepreneur is an individual that as a result of assuming financial and/or personal risk has created personal, community and/or regional wealth.
